About Turning Inward
Turning Inward, founded by Caron Hunter, is a healing approach that helps you transform your relationship with stress and pain to restore health. Caron’s commitment to this approach was born out of the compassionate loving support she received by all those who held the light, prayed, listened, and bore witness, as she turned inward to heal. Healing unfolded as she embraced an integrative approach that included western medicine, native American healing, eastern medicine, meditation, hands on and spiritual counseling. Ultimately health was restored as Caron embraced compassionate awareness in her own behalf.
Awakened by the beauty of the healing process Caron returned to school to study the teachings that were true to her heart. She graduated from the New Center for Wholistic Health Education and Research, where she learned eastern and western approaches to massage, and became a licensed massage therapist.
Caron studied Native American Healing with OhShinnah Fastwolf. Humbled by the role of Spirit in the healing process, she entered The New Seminary, an interfaith approach to Ministry where she studied all faiths and was ordained a Minister of Spiritual Counseling. As time went by, her studies included craniosacral therapy, myofascial release, energy healing, various breathing and meditation techniques, which she used in her practice as an integrative health care practitioner.
Caron witnessed the need for mindful movement as part of healing. She had a personal daily yoga and meditation discipline which nourished her for many years and supported her own turning inward. Caron enrolled in the Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy program and learned to facilitate a process that invites presence, awareness, and an opportunity for change. She graduated from Phoenix Rising a Yoga Therapist and Yoga Teacher.
A few years into her private practice, Caron was treating a young girl who was seeing a Neurologist for a complicated pain disorder. Dr. Brian Hainline reached out to meet with her, curious about her approach to treatment of pain. Dr. Hainline began to refer a small group of patients and she became further committed to a complementary approach to medicine.
In 1997, Dr. Hainline invited Caron to join him in creating an integrative pain medicine practice at ProHEALTH Care Associates, in Lake Success, NY. Caron holds a full time position as Associate Director of Integrative Pain Medicine where she combines all aspects of healing into private sessions, group sessions, gentle yoga/movement, hands-on healing, and meditation classes. She has developed “Turning Inward” as a healing approach that mindfully honors the spirit of the journey of healing.
